New model comes with the new engine and cosmetic changes in the exterior styling that made it almost the same as the regular Sonata models. This means that hybrid model lost its flashy and elegant front fascia, and the received the new front styling that will increase its aerodynamics and reduce the drag. There are also some smaller changes in the interior segment.

As we said earlier new front fascia is much more similar to the one seen in regular model and it reduces the drag and comes with better aerodynamics. This includes new front and back bumpers and the new grille and headlights. Another new thing and the only exterior feature that’s going to be different from the other vehicles in Sonata range are the new 17 inch alloy wheels.

When it comes to interior there are only a few changes, one of it being the installment of the new instrument cluster, which looks highly modern and comes with some additional data, like charge status indicator.
Another new thing is the introduction of the Blue Link application. This will enable drivers to control the charging status and to delay charging to fit in into the less expensive electricity periods.

This model comes with the new engine. Instead of the old 2,4 liter Atkinson cycle four cylinder engine, new 2,0 liter direct injected four cylinder engine will be installed. New engine will be able to produce 154 horsepower and 140 pound feet of torque and it is going to be paired with six speed automatic transmission and an electric motor that will come with 50 horsepower and 151 pound feet of torque outlet. Combined output of these two engines will be 193 horsepower. There’s a new revised battery as well, 1,62 kWh is going to be placed under the trunk floor.

New model will be able to achieve 93 mpg while driving electric-only, and if gas engine i also used it will achieve 40 mpg of combined output. This means that with combined mode this vehicle will be able to reach 38 mpg in the city and 43 mpg in the highway conditions. It will need two and a half hours to recharge if using 240 volt outlets and five hours if using 120 volt outlets.

New model will arrive in the showrooms later this year and it will be sold in : California, Oregon, Connecticut, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Maine, Vermont and Massachusetts.

Price of the new model hasn’t been announced yet, but at least we know that this model is going to be eligible for the $2,500 of federal Tax deduction.
