Overview

New model of this popular sedan was presented on 2014 LA Auto Show. It is one of the best rated sedans in the world currently, with very handsome exterior styling, great handling, nice fuel efficiency and much, much more. For 2016 model year this vehicle is coming with a slight refresh, which will hopefully start from changing interior plastic and introducing more detailed interior styling with better finish.

Exterior Styling

This segment is one of them most successful ones in the new Mazda6 model. Already handsome exterior will receive some more design improvements, like more muscular looking front fenders. It comes with arched roofline and nicely detailed rear end. Grille has been slightly reshaped for 2016 model year and this model is slowly receiving popular Mazda wing design, something that is already part of the Mazda CX-3 and Mazda CX-5 packages. This is characterized by narrow headlamps which as well as the tail lamps come with a LED trim.

2016 Mazda6 Interior

Last year’s model came with grainy black plastic inside the cabin, design that’s not trendy or functional, comparing to other vehicles in the class. This year, Mazda decided to take out the weird looking plastic and change it with variety of quality soft-touch materials. Another big update is the new display screen, we hope that in next model year infotainment system is also going to change, or at least receive some update, since it is become really sluggish.

There is also one more remark about the 2016 model interior and it has something to do with both interior and exterior, since the low roofline design is making rear seat feel a little bit cramped, especially for taller people, since this model is missing few cube inches of rear headroom. Another thing for Mazda to change in the next model year.

Seats are very comfortable and supportive, even in the base trim level. Another thing that doesn’t deserve a praise in the 2016 Mazda6 is the coordination between iDrive Commander Switch and TomTom navigation. Some other nicer features from this model are: electric parking brake, smartphone connectivity system Mazda Connect and already mentioned new 7 inch display.

Standard version comes with: air conditioning, power windows, locks and mirrors, remote keyless entry, USB and Audio input and cruise control.

Performance

Base version comes with powerful and agile 2,5 liter four cylinder engine, with direct injection and valve control. It can produce 184 horsepower and 185 pound feet of torque, whil when it comes to fuel economy it can achieve fantastic 40 mph on the highway, when eLoop regenerative system is attached. This engine can come with either six speed manual or six speed automatic transmission, with automatic having some additional driver modes.

One of the main reasons why this vehicle’s fuel efficiency increased so much is because of the big weight loss this vehicle went through during the last few model years. Today’s Mazda6 weights only 3,200 pounds. It also comes with a great road manners, precise steering, handling and more than respective acceleration.

Safety

This model comes with one of the best crash test results in the whole class. It received five star rating by the Federalies and “Top Safety Pick” award by the IIHS. It comes with numerous safety features including plus stability control, four wheel disc brakes together with a Brake Assist. Higher trim levels might come with Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Departure Warning, Forward Obstruction Warning and Smart City Break Support.
