Overview

Like some other Mazda models the new CX-5 comes with cutting edge Skyactive technology which makes it a well refined crossover vehicle. New model was presented on 2014 LA Auto Show and it comes with the mid-cycle refresh, which includes: engine change and a slight updates in the interior and exterior segments.

Exterior Styling

This segment was kept mostly unchanged and almost all of the nice and pleasant details from previous model year are back for the 2016. It comes with optional LED headlights and LED light signatures in the rear which come with base version. One of the rare interior changes is the introduction of new grille with horizontal stripes. Base version also comes with 17 inch alloy wheels, while 19 inch alloys are available as an additional option.

When it comes to hi tech this model can be compared with some much more expensive models. It comes with the latest infotainment and connectivity system called humorously called Human-Machine Interface. Central console comes with mounted control knob seen in some German luxury vehicles. Its infotainment system is the same as the ones that come with Mazda 3 and Mazda 6 vehicles and it is one of the best on the market. Since in the new model emergency brake come in form of a button instead of a handle, there is a little bit more space in the front.

There are three possible upholstery options, base version comes with cloth upholstery that can come in tan or black color. Higher trim levels come with black leather or Parachment leather upholstery. Materials used for the door and dash trims are improved for the 2016 model year.

2016 Mazda CX-5 also comes with some new safety features like blind spot monitoring, cross traffic alert, collision mitigating braking and cruse controls that comes with speed adjusting radar.

Performance

Base version comes with 2,0 liter four cylinder engine, which is able to produce 155 horsepower and 150 pound feet of torque. Same engine comes with 2016 Mazda CX-3 model. This engine is paired with a nice six speed manual transmission, which is the only option and front wheel drive. There’s also another engine option, the 2,5 liter four cylinder, that’s able to produce 184 horsepower and 185 pound feet of torque. This engine is paired with six speed automatic transmission, and torque converter. It also comes with few driving modes. Standard  version with 2,5 litre engine comes with front wheel drive, but it is possible to upgrade it to the all wheel drive.

Fuel Efficiency

This vehicle comes with a nice fuel efficiency, of 26 mpg for the version with 2,0 liter in city conditions and 35 mpg in highway conditions with 2,5 liter version being rated at 33 mpg. 2016 Mazda CX-5 with all wheel drive comes with 24 mpg in the city conditions and 30 mpg on the highway.
