In a report published by the National Insurance Crime Bureau, 2013 Nissan Altima was marked as the most-stolen vehicle in the United States, out of all cars produced in this model year. Behind it are the Ford F Series trucks. Part of this report was also a list of vehicles that are the least-recovered after being stolen. In United States average recovery of the stolen vehicles produced in 2013 is 88%. The least recovered vehicles are Chevrolet Silverado and Ford F Series.

Most vehicles get stolen in California, where around 20% of all car theft in the US takes place. Second is Florida, after which comes Texas and Michigan. California also got the highest recovery rate, of 92%, while Texas comes with only 83% due to the fact that a lot of stolen vehicles, go straight to Mexico from there.

NICB spokesman also added that new vehicles have much higher recovery rate because of the new technology features that enables police to easily track the vehicle after it gets stolen.
